My concern is not one of short term market reactions, its the long run harm that this will cause.

You understate the fiscal damage caused by people not having insurance, and overstate the impact this bill will have. You are not about doing what's best for all the people just for a certain group of Americans. So then, how can we have any kind of reasonable discourse?

Tonite someone repeated something Machiavelli once said. Serious reform is hard to pass because the people it will hurt know what to expect and will fight zealously to stop it while the people who will benefit have never experienced those benefits and so won't fight as hard.

The only thing that has changed that equation is that so many countries in the world both rich and poor have successfully implemented universal health care. To them, not only do American conservatives look ridiculous but they seem to act as if they are terribly narcissistic and entitled as well. How can any thoughtful, caring, reasonable American allow such conspicious and narrow entitlement go unimpeded?
