So if Joe Six Pack expects me to take care of him, and the law requires me to take care of him, what's wrong with the law requiring him to have insurance? Think about it - it's provocative IMO that's going to be the effect of this bill, to get Americans to realize that they expect an entitlement, and they are going to have to pay for it somehow. If you don't like the govt requiring people to have insurance, consider the other option: tax citizens to the extent that the govt provides medical care for everyone. I don't think that's a popular idea. It's an ethical and philosophical contradiction that has to be resolved politically and legally, so pick your poison.

Medicine has always had an ethic that all must be treated. In my Grandfather's generation perhaps 40% of his patients either could not pay his fee or only a greatly reduced fee he would quote. There were always some Doctors who did not abide by these unwritten rules, and they were socially shunned by other Doctors. We simply need a return to the traditional values of medicine on one hand. But over the years very expensive technology providers have developed in the medical field. Unfortunately these service providers never developed the culture of and financial codes observed by Doctors and other in the field of medicine, but have instead more closely resembled the ethics of patent medicine hucksters. .
