You raise a very good point.

Why is the government requiring that you treat everyone in the first place? Was that in the constitution somewhere? This country is SUPPOSED to be about freedom to succeed or fail on your own. If people want to smoke, drink, and eat until they are gasping brain dead spheres, that's fine. When they get sick, if they can't pay for health care, it sucks to be them. If someone chooses not to take care of themselves, I have no problem letting them die. No one should be forced to have to treat them.

Natural Selection is a good thing. It prevents the situation that the movie Idiocracy is all about: Idiots over-reproducing. As for the people who say "that's not fair!", who said life is fair? The government has tried to make life fair and look at the mess we are in. The government rewards failure, mediocrity, and stupidity (bankers and Wall Street executives), which actually ends up punishing intelligence and hard work.

I recognize that there are other situations where it's not so black and white, such as true emergency room traumas.

I pay cash for medical services. My doctor has a sign up that says payment is expected when services are rendered.
