That's why I was surprised that a friend of ours, human resources lawyer, husband as conservative as I (or more so), very busy, had that take away from the news sound bites. We have had many political discussions and she is more than willing to consider various points of view. She had not been exposed to the unsubstantiated aspect of these stories so I sent some articles her way.

Liberals aren't very independent minded and basically follow the thought line they're given.

I see it a little differently. My experience is that left wingers are less tolerant of opposing expressions of opinion. Right wingers are more tolerant than left wingers.

I think that the logic is that left wingers believe that they are for people. So anyone that disagrees with them are bigots or just anti-minority, anti-poor or anti-immigrant. Therefore, left wingers can feel noble about being a bigot against people that disagree with them.

They do not seem to understand that someone who believes that, for example, are for reducing immigration rates is not a bigot but has more noble motives (e.g. environmental, or other noble concerns about our future.)
