Swan,

The comparative statistics need a whole lot of interpretation. As Mark Twain said "there are lies, damned lies and statistics".

The health statistics you show are far more a reflection on our social ills than our health system. Life in portions of our inner cities is something that I have never seen in Canada.

I sometimes think that if the worse that happens to the US is that we wind up like Canada it would not be too bad. While expensive, life for my peers in Canada is comparable with the biggest apparent difference being housing.

I my opinion the US needs a strong growth economy to suck millions of the economic under priveleged into the system. To top it off we are about to say y'all come to our southern neighbors. Can we with our numbers be Canada - I doubt it. Can our health care system be compared by simple statistics to that of Canada - I do not think so.

If I get sick here in Cleveland I can go to the Cleveland Clinic. I am sure I would meet a bunch of Canadians there - why is that? (and will that continue).

Swan - I think you guys are about to lose your health care safety valve.

Bob
