Government and public unions are indeed a huge part of the economy of Hawaii -- the main beneficiaries of tourism, and the main beneficiaries of the landless status of Hawaiians. Some form of sovereignty, assuming it is indeed coming, could play havoc with the gravy train for the State. Perhaps from a cold-blooded investment standpoint it is better to wait for the implosion of State finances to properly discount the value of land in Hawaii -- ouch.
