OHA has vacant lots ready to build right now. $1 a year lease for Hawaiians. The problem is finding Hawaiians willing to be responsible enough to pay for the house built on the lots.

A while back OHA was the beneficiary of a massive influx of state $$$ from leased ceded lands. They had so much money they were lending it out to just about anybody willing to apply. Many got huge bucks to buy a new 4x4, boat etc. Of course, fishing doesn't really pay, boats need lots of maintenance and all that money went right down the drain. There are boats and rusted mammoth 4x4's sitting around all over the island now. -g-
