Canada is a good ten years ahead of us culturally. Of the worlds western democracies I would put the US as dead last in cultural evolution.

That's the inherent difference, and problem, with unicameral government (parliamentarian), and a Representative Republic (the US).

I prefer a two party system because it forces the extremists to the moderate middle, and prevents a tyranny of the minority where candidates never have 50% of the vote.

Theoretically speaking, you can have 100 different parties in a 200 member parliament and have a Prime Minister elected because his party has a very small percentage overall, but overwhelming majority with respect to an individual party, within that Parliament.

But I sure do enjoy watching British Parliament when it's in session and doing their Q&A of the Prime Minister. Almost better than watching Family Guy.... Almost... ;0)
