I bought a few LED lights but the quality sucked and the price was high.

As I drive around San Diego (admittedly our government is corrupt and incompetent) the LED traffic signal lights usually have 30% of the LEDs out. Terrible since our climate is pretty mild.

Is it the same in your city?

"The other factor has been that growth in demand for electricity has been decelerating almost every year over the past decade, regardless of economic growth."

Your statement seemed to be at odds with what I've read elsewhere. A quick look turned up the below link. Aggregate demand is at the bottom.

Info is only through 2008 but there is strong trend up for the past decade.

Perhaps for every 10 compact fluorescents, there is a new big-screen plasma of LCD.
