CYMER would not have to keep the stock. The company could block
trade in to an institution for a small discount. Then CYMER will
have made money and some of the stock value would have been returned.

Ditto Maxwell....

It makes no sense for a company of this size & growth to repurchase shares.
IBM, Pep, INTC.....now they have spare cash!!

As Curlton Latts indicated, CYMI has $190M in cash. That amount is not totally in cash but short term investments, money market, bonds etc. Many companies buy back their own shares because they believe that their own stock is the best investment as compared to any other stocks on WS. To buy 1 M shares cost CYMI only $ 23M. With the strong balance sheet, CYMI can easily float corporate bonds to finance its growth or get bank financing. If CYMI is short of cash, I completely agree with you.

Good Luck to you. Your numerous contibutions regarding the technical aspect of this complex product are greatly beneficial to all of us. Thank you.

Check out WIND's buyback. Succesful similar case. CYMI's cnv issue was targeted at $150 mil and it was oversubscribed to $172.5. $150 was plenty to implement their high growth business plan. $22.5 was excess. This Company has plenty of excess free cash for buyback and to fuel its growth - no problem.

Good Luck To Each And All

Maxwell << Cash is also needed to perfect the 198nm ArF laser and beyond>> everyone has their suggestions. my suggestion this week to them was to let the market know of their progress in the Arf arena. their progress has been significant and they haven't said anything about this to the marketplace. ArF system progress would dwarf any potential Komatsu is introducing next year based on KrF. although Komatsu is also working on Arf it is my understanding that Cymer is several years ahead in this arena. let's hope so. you've got to wonder what the shorts will do when this announcement is made

Maxwell,

I agree completely. This constant badgering of the directors
about buybacks, seems inapropriate. Now is the time to invest in keeping cutting edge technology a step ahead. Scientists, Employees, Marketing and support. Next generation to stay the market leader.

I'm sure about now management is so so sorry they ever went public
in the first place.

<off topic>

Maxwell,

Just a semantic, but ArF excimer lases at 193nm. Flourine dimer
lases at 157nm.
