The first night I spent there I was almost disturbed by the lack of noise.

That's funny! That's exactly why my father hated to visit me when I lived in Vermont. He's lived in the Boston burbs all his life and did not find the total silence to be relaxing at all. I think he came up twice in 9 years - and that was probably once too often for his liking.

He summers on the Maine coast - but even that, while relaxing, has it's own tourist hum and noise. For some, silence is definitely torture!

the city noise

I really like it. People come here on vacation and go to one of the other islands for the quiet. Not me!

Turns out our cat had a quirk that, not only was he a great mouser but he had the curious habit of eating his catch at your feet no matter where he caught it....

That's what they do... Our cat used to bring her catch home all the time - to show off. We had a nice loving relationship with that beast, but we were fully aware that we must be grateful that we are much bigger than she.... for otherwise she'd probably hunt us down... ;)
