The President represents the American people Maurice, and America doesn't bow to two-bit dictators. At least they hadn't until Obama came on the scene. Other countries may laugh and enjoy their Presidents kissing the ass of every dictator on the planet, but most Americans do not. Bowing in Japan might be acceptable, as long as the Emperor bowed deeper than the President of the United States.

That's what protocol would dictate.

Bowing in Japan seems like a good move. Bowing every where else makes you look stupid. I would prefer the President not to look stupid.
