$1 trillion for wars in the last 10 years and then we get all bent out of shape when our government tries to do something good for American health care. How does that make sense?

As has been previously pointed out --

a) The cost of the wars is a one-time expenditure while the cost of health care never ends;

b) Providing free health care to those who don't want to pay for their own is a luxury; going to war was essential in the opinions of many;

c) When you purchase health care for people who choose not to purchase their own, you create massive economic burden that government cannot afford. The 100s of billions spent on the wars is tough, but will not kill the country like the health care bill will.

I cannot imagine any country ever concerning itself with the budget once a determination has been made that war is necessary. I understand that was not YOUR determination, but when the country goes to war, everyone goes. That's how it works.

FDR had no hesitation about spending what was necessary. Because he understood the importance of it. I don't know if Bush was right or wrong. But once the decision was made you put every nickel you have into winning it.

It is bizarre for lefties to raise this issue. Just downright strange to me.

Yes it makes sense. The health care law cost will be A LOT over $1tril. Also the people "getting bent out of shape" about it think it is something bad for American health care.

I didn't approve of the war expenditures, either, but that doesn't mean I would have spent those funds to support a new entitlement for health care. I don't think it makes any more sense to pay for the health expenses of those who haven't taken care of or provided for themselves. My own sense of citizenship is that it's the first responsibility of any citizen to not be a weight on society. That's the way I live my life. Some people are born disabled or struck by lightning. They have no choice. The rest of us have a choice whether to be a net positive or a net negative. Throwing communal money at the willful negatives makes no more sense to me than throwing it at Iraqis.

How does that make sense?

Because we have people trying to kill us, and we are making the health care system worse, not better.
