Mind, I don't get it, what's this recurring mantra about oil addiction? What do you suggest - going back to subsistence farming? Horse and buggy? I recognize the implications of having to depend on imports - and having to worry about the stability of the sources - but what's the choice? We simply do not have any viable alternatives so far. I like the idea of using natgas for transportation.... but it will take a while.

You are ignoring the fact that it's our oil addiction that lead to our meddling in the Middle East over the last 60 years, including propping up Kings and Dictators, that has resulted in those people hating us enough to want to kill us.

Our oil addiction has made their leaders wealthy. The problem is that the leaders did not share their wealth and we did not interfere with their politics. Some of the leaders have diverted the poor peoples attention by preaching that their problems are the fault of the infidel.
