Not to mention the cost of setting up and maintaining a new record keeping system to keep track of your compliance should a Federal inspector come knocking.

And honest contractors like yourself are further disadvantaged when you add the new costs into your bid and your unscrupulous competitors who have no intention of complying don't.

They spent $13 million in Juneau renovating the federal building in order to remove asbestos. They created a swing floor, and each floor took their turn in it while the contractors worked.

Since it was asbestos removal, they deep cleaned the stairwells every day (I think) and had sensors to monitor contaminants. The building pressure was monitored and controlled so as to retard asbestos migration.

It was pretty nice when they got done, which took five years, two more than scheduled.

It seems like that class they're charging you for should be provided free, since it's required by law to take it. Anyway, it will be money well spent in the end.

But you're right. It is a tax.
