My neighbors referred me to a well guy, needed a new pump switch. 3 months later my well quit. I call him and he fixed it, the bill said ground wire on pump switch was installed wrong, 300 bucks. I called him and said you guys install that switch and wire yourselves 3 months ago, he said 'oh my guys just put anything on the worksheets' ???? so he charged me for the labor and new switched that he burnt up.

To make a long story short we settled for half the bill 9 months later just to get him off my back. Shouldn't have though.

there are some good ones though, my stone mason/tile guy was very good although slow

Most of the time, your local neighborhood contractor is best. We use our neighbor, who is a painting contractor. He gives us quality work for a good price. And always ask for at least 3 references, and then call them.

The funniest thing when I rebuilt my house was that I was the genenal contractor and the framers I hired were the project managers, we use some of his contractors and some of mine. He wanted to use his because of timing, like the electricians and plumbers coming in before the drywallers after the framing was done. He didn't want delays. This I understood, but after some major fights, like he didn't follow the blue prints (he thought I couldn't read them) I fired him.

Now I had taken a 250k construction loan from my local bank, after I fired him he called a young kid that he knew in the bank's construction loan dept.. The kid calls me the next day and said since I fired him they were gonna pull the loan and they wanted around 150k right away. Both the kid and framing company didn't know that my kids and the president of the banks kids went to the same small private school and we were friends. I called the Pres. of the bank. The kid called me the next day and apologized for about an hour.

I wish I was a fly on the wall when the kid from the bank called his framing buddies. lol
