<<Many scientists are religious, and many religious leaders are scientists. The religion vs science debate involves a few extremists who strive to shout louder than everyone else does.>>

Yea, extremists... shouting loud... wonder who they could be talking about? LOL

<<
A series of natural and political disasters, in the 14th century, changed European demographics. This period saw the first glimmerings of a religion vs science debate that would fester for hundreds of years. Christian dogma stated that the bible should be read literally, and that challenging this view was heresy.>>

Bible literalists.... hmmm, now who could that be? LOL

<
Giordano Bruno (1548–1600) was burned at the stake, for expanding upon the ideas of Copernicus. He also suggested the insightful theory that other stars may have worlds revolving around them.>

Naw... wacko says never happened.

Hey, check this out... just like I said... who cares?

<<

EVOLUTION – WHEN SCIENCE MET RELIGION
At last, we arrive at the ‘Theory of Evolution’ and ‘Natural Selection’.
This argument dominates the media, yet so few scientists and theologians actually care. Most are quite happy to reconcile and respect differences, but the extremist Christians, mainly in the US, have prevented any rationality.>>

Yep, Wacked out Christians.... here's more of them:

<<
Mainstream Christianity long since accepted that evolution fitted in with the views of the universe, but the extremists try to upset the status quo. On the one side, the vocal religious right, mainly in the US, promises Hell and damnation for those who do not believe their version of the truth.

On the other side, equally extremist views, put forward by Dawkins and his ilk, further alienate the moderates.>>

LOOK! Like moths to a flame... they flock to wacky Dawkins!!

Somer reality:

<<Whilst science and religion are always going to disagree upon some points, the vast majority of theologians and scientists are quite happy to respect each other’s beliefs.>>

<<
Here are some figures:

10 000 American members of the clergy signed a petition stating that they “believe that the timeless truths of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist."

40% of scientists express belief in a God or Supernatural force.

40% of scientists claim to be religious, a sizeable minority, so the divide is artificial, and does not exist outside the media circus.>>

SUMMARY – RELIGION VS SCIENCE IS BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION
To summarize, religion and science have always had an uneasy relationship, with one side or the other usually in the ascendancy.
Recent developments have started to drive a wedge between the two, even if most people see no problem with accepting the beliefs of the other side. Pseudoscience and junk science are increasingly portrayed as fact, with the extremists upon both sides drowning out reasoned debate.>>

"Junk Science"... hmmm where have we seen THAT before? You mean where you start with the assumption the bible is true and work backwards?? Yea, you got it.

Huh... a scientific journal talking about how many scientist believe in {gasp}...GOD:

<<Nature 386, 435 - 436 (03 April 1997); doi:10.1038/386435a0

Scientists are still keeping the faith

Although the suggestion eighty years ago that four in ten scientists did not believe in God or an afterlife was astounding to contemporaries, the fact that so many scientists believe in God today is equally surprising.>>

Actually Dawkins claims that parents who teach religion to their children are the moral equivalent of pedophiles. Why you choose to defend this idea I don't know.

* All physicists that "speculate" about "multiple universes" do so because they are denying the obvious "God" alternative.

First, the obvious alternative is design. Everyone will think of the designer as God though. And yes, that science can choose between a "finetuner" and a multiverse was in fact the explicitly stated THEME of the article I posted. Not something I'm making up.

* Believing in a compassionate loving god is some type of copout to get away from retribution from Brummar's God.

Let me point out that you've effectively claimed that God doesn't hold anyone accountable for their actions, even as I pointed out, Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot. Refusing to judge people who do great harm would be unloving to their victims.

* Science is a secret Cabal hiding God and promoting atheism.

No, but a lot of atheists think so. Check out PZ Myers phyrangula site.

* "Global Warming" is also propagated by the above...

No, its another set of con-men pushing the catastrophic anthropegenic global warming idea.

* Scientists that create GMO products are exempt from the above, because they worship at the corporate alter.

Not necessarily. GMO products might be good or bad. You seem to think that because a profit-seeking business is involved it must be evil.

* People have the inherent ability to know the ultimate truth and know right from wrong... but for some reason only Brummar and people who agree with him excercise that right... presumably every one else is evil.

I believe all men are sinful. You believe no men are sinful .... except for those seeking profit, or believing in the wrong non-judmental God, or being conservative, .....

* And if you go far enough back, the only person EVER persecuted by the Catholic Church is Galileo.

No, the only persecuted by the Catholic church for a scientific finding.
