Noami Shemer (1930-2004) was the single most important writer of shirim ivri'im [Hebrew songs] ever (lyrics and music). How many of us have heard Hebrew songs? Her earliest ones were recorded in the late 1950s, and she kept on writing until shortly before her death. Many are at the center of the canon. Uhmmm, what 'canon' is that? Yet the uncanny thing about her was her ability to write shirim that defined pivotal historical events, and always in advance. What is 'shirim'? There was something truly prophetic about her. uh huh.... Lets see, 1050's, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Little Richard, maybe Pat Boone, Frank Sinatra, other singers, uhmm, Pat Boone? What in the world does this woman have to do with the USA?
