CJ, > Just look at engineer salaries 30 years ago and compare them to today.

My salary is higher than it was 10 years ago, but that's because I progressed in my own career.

My coworkers today who are in the same position I was in 10 years ago are not making that much more than I did. This despite the fact that their "productivity" increased by leaps and bounds thanks to better tools.

The bottom line is that the market determines salary. If there are not enough people to fill positions, salaries go up. There is no direct correlation between productivity and salary. Something I always keep in mind since my job is constantly in danger of getting outsourced to China or India (and I can't rely on any bleeding heart liberal to feel "sorry" for a "rich" guy like myself).
