John; It could have the same solder pin footprint to allow motherboards to use both sockets. But differ mechanically so the MB maker would need two sockets to solder in to the board. Whether or not they could achiever that kind of compatibility is to be seen. That is how I read electrical compatibility, same volts and signals, but plugs in another way to bypass some mechanical patent hindrance. So AMD will make their CPU packs and Intel theirs, and Mr ZIF will make a board level socket to fit either one and problem solved. Bill

Petz, <One interesting thing about "SLIT 1" is that its only claimed that it is "electrically" compatible, i.e., that it can use the same chipset. Since they don't claim it, I expect that it is mechanically incompatible with SLOT 1..> I haven't heard the term slit1 from anyone but you however I will take your word for it for purposes of discussion. As for it being mechanically incompatible with slot1, I don't see why it would be. What's the difference? Why should it be incompatible? The chipsets don't support L2 so if it ain't on the processor card, it ain't gonna happen. What else could be different? EP
