You misunderstood me. I was refering to the new cheaper version of the Pentium II reported at
news.com

This new Pentium II uses an interface called SLIT 1 (no joke). Intel claims that SLIT 1 is electrically compatible with SLOT 1, but doesn't say its mechanically compatible. SLIT 1 is probably a lot smaller than SLOT 1.

AMD Slot "A" is not the same electrically as either SLIT 1 or SLOT 1, but uses DEC Alpha bus protocol. It would take more than another socket or an adaptor to get this to work with the AMD chip. Interestingly, INTEL says they'll use this protocol for Merced computers.
