Answer me this, though. Why are the GOP currently opposing financial reform? Not that I think the Dem bill is the best we could get and I don't like the $50B fund, which does nothing but signal that money will be available for future waste instead of just letting the bankruptcy courts do their jobs. However, I can't stand the GOP constantly just obfuscating instead of putting their own ideas forward.

In the case of financial reform, I honestly think the GOP probably can come up with a smarter bill, but they aren't coming up with anything? What we need are the GOP of the 90's with Gingrich leading the charge. Those guys were smart, fiscal conservatives. The GOP of today doesn't seem to have much sense in their heads. All they are for is obstruction.

If the GOP was smart, they would put out a proposal to strictly monitor and regulate derivatives, while strengthening the bankruptcy courts to handle any size failure, and also think about bringing Glass-Steagal back. That should be for starters.
