I just read GTW's press release. The selling points for their service as they see it are 1) ease of use and 2) price. 3) quick access

They claim that internet users are intimidated by the internet and want a one-button solution. Hey, hasn't CPQ had that for some time?

Love their pricing, too. $12.95 a month for 30 hours. After that it's $2.95 per hour. Anyone with a 5th grade education can figure out that using, for example, AOL with unlimited access is a better buy. To even consider going with GTW in order to get their service, you'd have to be damn certain that you were going to stay under 5 1/2 hours a week.

Quick access might be a selling point were it not for the price. However, it remains to be seen how quick their access will be. Will it be quick like their technical support? The only thing slower than trying to get onto AOL in the evening is trying to get a hold of GTW's tech support.

If the ISP package works and does pull in buyers, you can be sure that CPQ etc will team up with some telco or other to put together a more attractive package and eat GTW's lunch once again.

The curious thing about GTW's strategy is that the people who need easy, uncomplicated internet access are not the ones buying GTW's machines, but the first time buyers picking up the $1000 jobs in their local store. So, where's GTW's $1000 machine?
