I'm not trying to out-anecdote you here, just pointing out that the dogma wears no clothes. Most recently I've seen studies about different body types and how some respond better to one diet, others to a different diet. IIRC, about sixty percent are better suited to low carb and the rest to low fat. Of course those studies are new and need to re replicated.

I am happy for your success. Most people in the Registry lost and control their weight via low fat. So I think that an "I'm OK, you're OK" approach is the most reasonable one. Dogma puts round pegs into square holes, where they get fatter and fatter.

I agree with this. I honestly believe we all live on a spectrum. What works for some won't work for others. There are some general guidelines that can be proven to be the case for most, but that doesn't mean it will be the case for everyone. BTW, that's an incredible HDL number. I can't beat that at all. I hover around 45, even though I eat tons of foods high in mono and poly unsaturated fats and run alot. My wife eats a ton of ice cream, although she's also a runner. She drives me nuts. She stays skinny despite eating a bunch of garbage and her cholesterol is always in the awesome range. I guess you and her got some good genes.

I worry about my kids, though. They eat nothing but junk. Those habits last a lifetime and are hard to break.
