"Obama has had well more than a year to have dealt with these problems and failed miserably."

Me thinks you got it wrong, he is trying to dig this country out of the biggest hole since 1929-33 and things are turning around. He is achieving this , perhaps more slowly than all hoped for, despite the best efforts of the conservatives. In order to achieve fiscal success he will have to cut fed govt expenditures by at least 10%, perhaps more and increase revenues by 15%. The dreaded tax increases on the rich and big corporations have to be considered if we are ever going to get things back to sanity. Why, for example , should EXXON pay a 1% taxon its profits? That is insanity.

Do you agree with the GOP's drill, baby, drill policy in light of the current problem in the Gulf?

Well, first of all, let's be clear: It is also the Dem's policy. In case you missed it, a few weeks ago Obama embraced it in the strongest possible terms.

Not true. They are not the same policy. The Rs would drill up your ass if they thought you had any oil. Obama is allowing for limited drilling including sparing your ass.

That said, I will wait to see the actual damage rather than make assumptions based on news accounts before forming any judgment as to future drilling. Anyone who remembers the blowout of Ixtoc I knows that the news media hype can differ radically from the actual ecological damage.

This is not media hype:

And finally, what I can definitely say at this point is that government has a role in monitoring these activities to be sure that drillers can fulfill their obligations WRT environmental concerns.

So you support gov't drilling everywhere so long as there is gov't oversight. Is that what you are saying?

>>" Obama has had well more than a year to have dealt with these problems and failed miserably. And the failure to respond to the problem when it happened suggests he needs to focus a bit more on running the country and a little less on running the country into the ground. "<<

Yup, time for the you and your teabaggers buddies to get down to Louisiana and hold a rally to get the government out of this oil spill business...you know, they screw up everything and look what it could do to the deficit...OHMIGOSH...Leave BP alone!!
