No analyst at a major research house acts on such a basis. It is not how they get paid. They get paid according to their rankings in Institutional Investor, and freqently move between houses, if they are stars. It is obviously you who doesn't understand the street. Sometimes analysts ARE less than candid...biased upwards...w/respect to companies that have been or may become their investment banking clients. ML underwroted signif. amounts of I* debt, did they not? If you understood the street you would know that a downward revision six months or so after major underwritings by one of the underwriters is Major Negative. Doug
