Christine,

"Can you refute all the points the ACLU makes?"

I only need to refute the last one: "the second amendment guarantees the rights of states to maintain militias". Wrong!!! The second amendment guarantees the "right of the people to keep and bear arms". What twisted mind could take a guarantee of an individual freedom and turn it into a guarantee of a state's right? And you were an English major weren't you? What is more important, the supporting clause of why the right is guaranteed, or the actual guarantee???

THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. Is there any clearer statement in the English language? Perhaps "A is A", but I'm sure the ACLU could make short work of that one as well.

As JF and I have both pointed out, the amendment can be repealed if it is deemed no longer desirable. All it takes is something like a 3/5ths vote of the states. If there is such a concensus as the ACLU maintains, that should be no problem. But then there is that nasty organization, the NRA. Which reminds me, it's time to renew my membership.
