All good and well said but I have an inkling about this.

Like it or not the left puts restraints on the right so that things don't blow up or get way out of control, which to me proves to be valuable and visa versa with RW restraining left. The left has worked long and hard to restrain the right on Church/State.

I had that same inkling when I heard the NOW declaration about fondling and it proved to be correct. Well sort of. I don't see that women have lost much of the social movement momentum over it. I imagined terrible things would follow in the work place and in the courts and I was just wrong about that. Maybe it was just the right time for the NOW movement to disban, I don't know. I had a relative who worked for them in the main office. She was pretty in, she got to be a speech writer for Ferraro during her campaign. So the change was made pretty visible from where I sat. Maybe its time to see what happens when we lighten up on church/state taboos too, I don't know... puttin the stew back on the stove.
