Sandra Day O'Connor was sitting on the 9th Circuit by appointment. I just received this case today. Deals with the First Amendment in the college environment. Interesting case; correct outcome, imo.

the invasion of Tarawa

One of the many invasions we made during our island-hopping campaign that were unnecessary. We needed the Mariannis for the B-29's and drop tanks on our 51's for fighter protection. And we needed to stop the Japs in the early days from invading Australia, so Guadalcanal was necessary. The rest could have been done without.

John Bradley was another Central Wisconsin guy. He owned a funeral home in Antigo and his kids attended school there. My aunt, an elementary teacher, had those kids in class. She used to tell stories about Bradley and Iwo Jima--I was too young to be interested. WWII seemed like ancient history to a teenager in the 50s.
