**NOTE** Potentially REALLY offensive joke at end of this post. Read at own risk.

This whole "disgusting and inappropriate" debate seems rather curious. In a world established by force of arms and where violence and belligerence appears to be the accepted norm, we argue over words.

And many people are prejudiced, mysogynistic, racist etc; and these biases show up in their humour. In fact, we all have a nasty side, and should work to keep it in check.

So should people be prevented from venting these tendencies? What is accomplished? Cure them? Drive it underground? Punish them? An act of violence to cure a verbal act of violence?

I don't know.

When I was told the following joke, I was with a woman who exhibited the condition described. And she was terribly embarassed by it and I never mentioned it in her presence. Women don't brag about bodily functions like men do, that sort of thing. When I heard the joke, I recognized it as cruel and offensive, but I laughed - a lot.

So... you're warned.

Q: What is the difference between a woman and a refrigerator?

A: A refrigerator doesn't fart when you pull out the meat.
