Thanks for the thoughtful answer. I wasn't implying that Custer was inept, but that he made crucial decisions without listening to his scouts. He wiped out a camp of peaceable Indians and completely missed the camps where hostiles hung out. They wiped out another contingent of soldiers. "Long Winter Gone" depicts an extraordinary military talent in Custer. Obama has extraordinary talent of sounding good while not knowing what he's doing, and he doesn't listen to scouts warning signs unless they toe his line.
