The advantage I see of a "top kill" at such depths is that there is a significant amount of water column pressure from the top and minimal counteracting flotation pressure at that depth. The only concern then is the gushing oil pressure.

I presume that they are also using the domes they h ave already lowered as one of the components of the mix of the "top kill".
