I think it's a bit like a lot of talk after the failed Xmas Day non-bomber. There was lots of chatter about why hadn't he come right out and 'calmed our nerves'.

The engineers have been working on the solution, a solution that takes too long for people who live in a world where they 'want it and they want it now' regardless of physical reality.

The 'pundits' yelling so loud are not down in the Gulf helping with anything, yet they could be.

I don't think it's Obama who hasn't handled a crisis well. I think there are a lot of Americans who hadn't handled things well. And some of those Americans seem to long for a King or Tsar who rules everything and also chats by the fireside with them cause they so nervous and need a reasurring daddy, or some such.

If the clean-up is done well, I imagine that will be on Obama, since LA sure seems unable. And I imagine he will do it well and keep doing it while many, if not most, Americans have moved on to new things to fret about, having forgetten the people of the Louisiana coast except for when they want to make fun of them.

"Obama has not displayed his ability for command and control of a crisis."

I disagree, partially. Obama came into office in a global financial crisis, far more serious than this one, and handled it in fine fashion.

I agree that in THIS crisis, he seems to have been less than effective. That said, I'm not sure what he could have done that would have actually improved the results, but he could have SEEMED to be more involved for political purposes.

I get a kick out of all these "small government" conservatives BAWLING for a big government response when one of their unfettered, unregulated corporations makes a mess on their Riviera!

Other than cheerleading every day, what would you have him do? A brain surgeon doesn't go any faster cuz the hospital administrator walks in and sez "cut faster". Maybe he should say "15 acres, folks; STFU." He could say "Jindal, do something besides cry; yer a guv."

How many times does Chris Matthews need to say "why don't all the oil companies..." B4 he figures out that the all companies have been, from Day 1. He must not read my posts.

And I wouldn't be surprised to see Salazar gone soon. cleaning up the MMS was supposed to be one of the first priorties, and though some steps were taken off the bat, it seems to have stopped when eyes turned away.

At this point, O could appoint one of the more enviromental friendly people who likely could not have gotten through before, such as the rep from ... New Mexico or Arizona. I think it's Arizona. gotta look it up.
