people wise it's in the mid 600 thousands. but land wise it covers 1120ish sq miles. does sound like a huge sum, though. but I have no idea how much these things cost.

By comparison, the new Yankee statium, parking, et al cost $1.3 billion:



Of course, construction costs are much higher in NYC. Ave. office space in NYC goes for $50 or more per sq ft; Birmingham around $10.

I think $5 billion for a sewer system for the built up area of Birmingham [they wouldn't put sewer lines in the undeveloped portion] is a lot of coin. I suspect someone did well on the construction bids.
