The Japs also have a high savings rate and can finance that kind of debt through it's own citizenry. The U.S. is playing games of course with the true amount of it's public/national debt keeping the unfunded liabilities of entitement programs off-budget, so if anybody is expecting some of kind of straight line increase in the public debt, they are dead wrong. We will encounter our own austerity measures in just a few short years.
