RIMM to come out with new devices to better compete against the iPhone and iPad. Obviously others have the same idea. I'll again note we're just at the beginning of this secular growth trend of mobile internet and other new chip intensive devices that is on top of the current cyclical chip uptrend and yes, to an extent that's why it's different this time.

BTW why is it that people who take great exception to the idea something may be different this time don't have the same strong opinion when we hear people like Pimco's Mohamed El-Erian talking about a "new normal" which sounds suspiciously the same as saying it's different this time?

Should one only dismiss the notion of it's different this time when it argues for a new positive trend and ignore the same point when it argues for a new negative trend?

This is the WSJ article on RIMM's new devices but subscription may be required:

Research In Motion Ltd. is readying a slate of new devices and software as it looks to keep its BlackBerry smartphone from losing more ground to touch-screen devices like Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPad.
