Deepwater Horizon had such a "deadman switch" setup.

I've yet to see anyone suggest sabotage as a possibility. Has that been ruled out?

You seem to know the terminology but you have no idea how the deadman's switch actually works. The riser was never disengaged because of the way the rig sunk so even if everything was in perfect working order, it won't have fired. Tell me why Norway (you know, the guys that pioneered hostile environment offshore drilling and production) too has decided to suspend deepwater drilling. Are they just doing for politics or to make Obama look reasonable?
