Sun Plans Mid-'98 Release Of Enhanced Java Development Kit techweb.com

I hope this is good, and wish it was earlier. Will it beat Windows98 out the door?

Cheers, Dan.

Derek (and all),

I was wondering if anyone has given much thought as to whether or not the solution to the Sun Vs MSFT issue would/could/should involved a merger or combining of interests between SUNW and some other company, eg: ORCL or NSCP (wildcard: NOVL. mainly due to their extensive client base).

I see an ORCL/SUNW conbination as a powerhouse that would capture the attention of the marketplace for client/server systems, provide greater distribution access for SUNW products in the ORCL marketplace, and ultimately the market and political clout needed to take on MSFT head to head.

Admittedly, I have no idea if ORCL and SUNW are compatible, but I do see the synergies. The alternative may be a lingering loss of marketshare to MSFT as it infiltrates their markets riding the misplaced promise of Windows NT. (Once they gotcha, its easier for them to keep you since you're locked into their product line.... :0)

Any thoughts??

Regards,

Ron
