to walk away now would simply confirm what many believe and others are only beginning to fear.

I began to fear some time ago, and am fast becoming a believer.

I did something yesterday that I never would have thought possible - voted for Nikki Haley, the tea party (and Palin) endorsed candidate in the SC Republican runoff - but for very old fashioned reasons - anybody (her opponent in this case) who would try to gain advantage from blabberings about sexual encounters has to be a scum of the lowest order.

>>>What I mean is for the guy to walk away from such a strongly stated position easily and quickly would be devastating at this time. At a time when both left and right are questioning his leadership skills - to walk away now would simply confirm what many believe and others are only beginning to fear.<<<

Any President has to learn to cut his losses and pick his battles. I think that Obama bet the farm on health care. He really hung it out there. He won but at a horrible price. The only question about backlash is "how much" not if. I think he would have been better served to let the moratorium matter fade - after all he responded quickly and aggressively. Its just that the good judge after suitable deliberation found a few wrinkles. No big deal. Instead of jumping right back in that same ring, Obama could have commended the judge's prudence, and developed a new alternative - like putting one or two national guard troops on each rig with a few inspectors - just in case - and doubling the size and budget of his recently formed deep offshore regulatory team.

You also have to consider that Obama has decided to open yet another war against the states with the suit against Arizona and the illegal immigration issue. How many states' rights battles will he pitch at once? Right or wrong, left or right, liberal or conservative, you have to acknowledge that he has developed the image of being one of the most heavy handed, federal-trumps-states, activist presidents in recent history. I would say that you would have to go back to FDR to find his equal in this regard.

I would close by saying that I don't care for Obama and his ham handedness too much. I would suggest that he is giving the election to Sarah Palin, whom I like even less, which in turn only increases my dislike for Obama. Does that make sense?
