producing in this country does lower our dependence on foreign sources. Where's the win? We'd have a more expensive supply, plus we'd use up our reserves faster than the rest of the world. The cost of higher-priced domestic oil would percolate through the whole economy and make every good and service more expensive and our exports less competitive. This point of view ignores international trade theory and must be based on considerations completely outside the realm of economics.
