We are not taxing gas nearly enough. Its not even enough to maintain our roads and bridges let along build mass transit.

Why should it be burdened with building mass transit? That should carry its own weight.

The goal is get away from an oil economy, not just increase domestic production.

Then why don't you guys do what you claim you want. Stop driving, flying, using anything made from petroleum?
