I agree with Hawking. A truly intelligent species, even if it didn't want/need the planet's resources, would probably eradicate us all as a service to the other life on Earth.

neolib, the problem is that what is good for someone often isn't good for another - at least at the time decisions get made.

"do unto others as you have them do unto you" is pretty good and incredibly simple.

so why does nobody do it?

oh, that's right, it came from the bible.

the whole darwin survival of the fittest thing is to make genocide guilt free - we are just the fittest and this is the way it works, baby!
