For some key problems, there may be multiple ways of addressing them - more than one potential solution. At times, I suspect that independents are not deciding to not address key problems but rather they are expressing a desire that they be addressed differently.

If that is "pragmatic" voting then it's a stupid kind of pragmatism since it goes directly against self-interest.

But whose self-interest are we talking about? By definition it will vary from person to person. Mine will be different from yours.
