They were probably testing 56K flex. My experience with x2 is not based upon a articles I read but with actual use. Very happy with it!

... Avg. connect speeds around country are low 40s. Hardly and improvement from 33.6. Some areas are lucky enough to get mid 40s thats it. Hardly a compelling upgrade.

You say few connect at speeds greater than 40k and then assume every one without x2/56kflex connects at 33.6. Lets compare apples to apples, 40k is 39% faster than 28.8k, 52% faster than 26.4k and so on. What other component in your PC can increase performance by 40% to 50% for $100 to $150? Further, if web surfing performance is your goal then this is the key bottleneck to improve.

Sounds cheep to me.
