So then were you able to get out in time during 2000 and then again in 2007? I made alot of money over the last decade as well, but lost quite a bit from 2001-2 and from 2008-early 2009. On balance, I would have been better off holding all of my money in cash over the last decade. That's one of the reasons why I recently paid off my house. I should have been retired 5 years ago, but these markets are killing me. Going forward, I can retire by 2015, if I just leave all my money in cash, put my new savings into cash, and don't lose any of it in the process. So screw these markets. They are for suckers and skilled traders, but not for long term buy and holders, which is really all I know how to do.
