Thanks for posting that. I agree with the article about Nasr. But since both sides do this, it's a little hard to cry too much about it. I just hope the left keeps up its monitoring and outing of every winger who does something as politically damaging. In times like these the only defense is offense- which will make both sides extremely offensive to the middle, I suspect, but playing nice isn't going to work. I used to think it would, but then I saw the right go nuts. The stuff coming out of wingnet central is insanity. Conspiracy upon conspiracy- and the falsity of the conspiracies, even when proved to any reasonable standard, has no effect. What can you do when a portion of your electorate wraps itself in a flag and decides as long as they believe they are "patriots" reality doesn't matter? Nationalism as collectivized insanity seems to be the order of the day on the far right. I'm not sure how we'll combat that- but since I'm an optimist, I suppose we will.

I must say that I agree with Mr. Davidson's analysis. There's no mass-market "liberal media" really. My perception is that the Right Wing of the Republican party, and even some people farther right than that, have in large been dictating the terms of debate in this country for at least the last couple of decades. Between their seemingly limitless capacity for outrage and liberals' desire to make political peace, we have become entangled in meaningless drama while being unable to have any kind of reasonable discussion about anything.
