John;

But the genuinely serious fiscal problems we face at the state and federal level, in my view, are thanks to what Sam keeps calling the "starve the monster" strategy of the right

Sooo, we leave all the inefficiencies in place even adding to them? How will that ever allow the inefficiencies to be addressed? We tried this grow our way out and it was called the Bush years. You really want to go back to that?

Steve

The way I see it, you either pay down the deficit by raising taxes, or you pay it down by inflation.

Pick your poison.

The republicans clearly want to kill the government, What they don't realize is that they won't be able to stop reducing their taxes to zero and war spending to infinite because they have forgotten how to stop their insane ways. What they want is individual fiefdom states that they can rule as lords. Unfortunately the resulting serfs won't be able to pay retribution taxes to them.
