Re: "Clinton was almost perfectly set up to have surpluses, certainly more so than any other recent president."

I have no idea how in Hell you could think that, given the SIZE of the massive structural deficits left to him.

Remember the tax increase he pushed through in his SECOND YEAR in office? The one that ZERO republicans voted for? The one that they all said (universally!) would cause doom and destruction and an actual INCREASE IN THE FEDERAL DEFICITS if it were to be enacted????????????????

Reagan was the guy that was "perfectly set up to have surpluses".

No President in the last 60 years has had the opportunity that he had.

Part of his campaign in 1980 was to "complain" about how large our National Debt was. But, instead of cutting it down he TRIPLED it in 8 lousy years.

George Bush I cared about the Country enough to back some revenue increases even though he knew it could end his Presidency. It did because all the hyenas jumped all over him for it.

Obama is looking like a moron right now, but just about ANYBODY elected in 2008 would be looking like a moron right now because our fiscal problems aren't based just on some cyclical downturn but on some real structural and regulatory lapses that have been building up over several decades.

If a Republican gets elected in 2012 HE/SHE may look like a moron by 2014.
