Changes in income can be completely misleading without looking at where the changes are coming from.

If I see cap gains taxes going up next year and I decide to sell to pay taxes this year, my income could go up by 300%. Is that meaningful? Certainly not in comparing different income groups.

Or maybe an increase of several million minimum wage illegals will skew the lower end down.

I wonder if the difference in income is due to the fact that the top 1% have jobs and the bottom 5% dont have jobs. We need job redistribution I think the top 1% should all quit their jobs to make room for the bottom. John Galt.

Well the law used to be that the top income tax rate was 90%. It was a disaster and has never been anywhere near that since.
