"The bottom line, however, is that unemployment checks have a negative effect on job creation."

How so?

"And how much does it discourage people from trying other things or even taking temporary jobs?"

How much does it take? All I know is that I and some others I know were willing to take other jobs, even temp. ones. It didn't work.

Have you ever been on unemployment? If you don't make an effort to find a job, you don't get paid. You can even be required to pay back any unemployment you have received if they think you haven't put in good faith effort.

It seems to me that you and the other Republicans are just working on pure thought experiments without any real world information.

There have been studies on this. That can happen when the ratio of seekers to openings is close. But it's 6 to 1 right now!
